Privacy policy

Last updated 8 September 2026

This policy explains what the FutonEV apps for Android and iOS collect, why we collect it, the legal basis for it under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the rights you have. We collect what the app needs to plan routes and stay reliable, nothing more. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we are

The data controller for FutonEV is:

clq inc.
47 rue Vivienne
75002 Paris
France

For anything to do with privacy, including requests to access or delete your data, write to [email protected].

What this policy covers

It covers the FutonEV mobile apps for Android and iOS, including the Android Auto and CarPlay surfaces, and this website at futonev.app. It does not cover the charging networks, map providers or car manufacturers you may interact with through the app. Those companies are separate controllers and their own privacy policies apply to what they do with your data.

What we collect and why

Each row lists what we process, what it is for, and the GDPR legal basis. Where the basis is consent, you can withdraw it at any time and the app keeps working without that feature.

DataPurposeLegal basis
Account details Your email address, an optional display name, and your subscription status, if you choose to create an account. Signing in with Google or Apple shares the same basic profile fields. Used to sign you in and to sync your garage and subscription across devices. Performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b)
Location Your device location, used to centre the map, find chargers near you, and give turn-by-turn guidance while you drive. See Location, in detail. Performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b), together with the permission you grant on your device
Trip and vehicle input Start and destination, the battery levels you set, and the vehicle and charging passes you select. Sent to our routing service to compute a plan and to price the stops at your member rate. Performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b)
Connected-car data Only if you link a Tesla or Volvo account: battery level and charge state, read to replace estimates with real figures. Your consent, Article 6(1)(a)
Charging history Charging sessions recorded on the device while you navigate a route, with energy, cost and location of the stop, so the app can show what you spend and whether a network subscription would pay for itself. Performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b)
Usage analytics Aggregated events such as "route planned" or "station opened", plus coarse device and app-version information, through Google Analytics for Firebase. Used to see which features are worth keeping and improving. Your consent, Article 6(1)(a). You can switch it off in Settings under Usage analytics.
Diagnostics Crash and performance reports. On Android these reach us through Google Play, on iOS through Apple, in both cases only when your own device settings allow sharing with developers. Our legitimate interest in a stable app, Article 6(1)(f)
Integrity signals A device-attestation token from Firebase App Check, backed by Play Integrity on Android and App Attest on iOS, so our servers can tell a real FutonEV install from an automated abuser. Our legitimate interest in protecting the service from abuse, Article 6(1)(f)

The app does not read your contacts, your photos, your calendar, your call history or your files.

Location, in detail

Location is the most sensitive thing FutonEV touches, so here is exactly how it is used:

Connected cars and OBD adapters

Linking a car is optional and off unless you set it up.

Charging networks

Prices, connector details and live availability come from charging-network operators and data aggregators across Europe. We request that data with a location or a station identifier. We do not tell them who you are.

When you arrive at a stop, the app can offer to open that network's own app so you can start and pay for the session. To show that offer, the app checks whether the network's app is installed on your device, which on iOS means querying a fixed list of app URL schemes declared in the app. The result is used on the device to decide what to show, and is not sent to us. You can turn the whole behaviour off in Settings.

Payments and subscriptions

FutonEV Pro is optional. Depending on the platform and the offer you choose, a purchase is handled by Stripe through a hosted checkout page, or by Google Play billing. We never see or store your card number. What we receive back is the fact that a subscription is active, its plan and its expiry, attached to your account so Pro features unlock on your devices.

Analytics, diagnostics and integrity

Analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time in Settings under Usage analytics. When it is off, the app stops sending analytics events. Analytics events describe actions in the app, not the content of your trips, and we do not use them to identify you personally.

Diagnostics and integrity checks are separate from analytics and cannot be disabled in the app, because they are what keeps the app from crashing and keeps our servers from being abused. Both are limited to technical information about the app and the device.

Who we share data with

We share the minimum necessary with providers that process data for us, under contract:

ProviderWhat it does for us
Google FirebaseAccount sign-in, analytics, and app integrity checks
CloudflareHosting for this website and for our routing service
StripePayment processing and subscription management
Google Play, AppleApp distribution, in-app purchases, sign-in with Google or Apple, and crash reporting
OpenFreeMap, MapLibre, MapboxMap tiles and map rendering, requested by your device
Routing and traffic data providersRoad network, traffic and guidance data used by our routing service. Requests reach them from our servers, not from your device.
Charging-network operators and data aggregatorsCharger locations, pricing and live availability
Tesla, VolvoBattery and charge state, only for a vehicle you have connected
ZendeskHandling support and privacy requests you send us by email

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

We do not sell your personal data, we do not share it with data brokers, and we do not use it for advertising or ad targeting.

International transfers

Some of the providers above, including Google, Apple, Stripe, Cloudflare and Zendesk, may process data outside the European Economic Area, in particular in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on appropriate safeguards, normally the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with the provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where they hold one. You can ask us for details of the safeguards that apply to a given provider.

How long we keep data

Security

All traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are never stored by us in readable form. Access to production systems is restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affects your data we will notify the supervisory authority, and you, as the GDPR requires.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We answer within one month. There is no charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your local data protection authority. Ours is the French CNIL, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, www.cnil.fr.

Deleting your account

You can ask us to delete your FutonEV account and everything attached to it by emailing [email protected] from your account address with the subject "Delete my account". We delete the account, its profile fields, its garage and its synced charging history within 30 days. Records we are legally required to keep, such as payment and invoicing records, are retained for the period the law sets and then deleted.

Removing the app on its own does not delete your account, since the account lives on our servers. Data held only on the device goes when you uninstall.

Your choices in the app

Children

FutonEV is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.

This website

futonev.app is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and embeds no third-party scripts or fonts. Cloudflare, which hosts it, keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for a short period to serve the site and protect it from attack.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
